This is an audio reactive animated piece I created to paint a vivid picture of my relationship to sound, form and motion.
Each geometric shape visually reacts to the vast array of frequencies generated by my analog modular synthesizer and Elektron Machinedrum. Sound and vibration are the primordial building blocks of the universe, so with that in mind I explore designing sound from the basic analog waveforms generated by the synthesizer, i.e.: sine, triangle, saw and square waveforms. Then I construct an improvised composition recorded live in one take. The next part of the process is interpreting the music with form, color and movement. I start by designing the structures I imagine while I’m composing music, once the structure and geometry is built, I breathe live into it with the sounds from my modular synth. Some frequencies build shapes while other deconstruct them in the age old process of build and destroy. This is one of the many ways I approach urban meditation. Similar to how the Yogis of India count mantras on a mala with108 beads to focus the mind on spiritual matters, I approach my art from that same perspective. As an example… music is measured in beats per minute, I approach that as a rhythmic meditation. Shapes are associated with different elements keeping the focus on the visual building blocks of nature. Movement is driven by unseen forces like gravity, wind and resistance. Color is a very high frequency and can be used to stimulate different parts of the mind and stimulate the chakras.
Just as the universe creates waves of vibration going through the transformation of the audible becoming visual, I follow that divine path of the fractal nature of our existence… As above, so below.
